    Explore the fundamentals of drawing while experiencing and recognizing your individual emerging style. Study and apply design elements of art. Respond to visual stimuli through careful observation and repeated practice while experimenting with traditional drawing tools: charcoal; conte’ crayon; pencils; and pen and ink. A model will be used for the figure studies section. All materials are supplied. Drop-ins are welcome at a pro-rated cost of $15 for members; $18 for non-members.

    Painting

    # PT-01 Introduction to Painting with Water-Mixable Oils  with Al Harris-Fernandez

    This is a basic painting course intended for the beginning painter. Techniques of using paint and brushes will be discussed, demonstrated and experienced during the class. Emphasis will be on basic color theory and composition. Each lesson students will work toward producing a finished painting. SUPPLY LIST: Students should bring Duo water-soluble oil paints, a medium size synthetic bristle brush and a 9" x 12" and/or 16" x 20" ready stretched canvas. Duo paints are available at the Dick Blick Art Store in Omaha or at a number of outlets on the internet, while the other required supplies are available at local outlets. Additional brushes and acrylic paint will be supplied. Required Duo paints include: yellow ochre, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, white and black. In additon to the previously listed basic colors, students may also want to purchase the following Duo paints: light yellow, cerulean blue hue and red. This class is available for staff development or graduate credit for teachers through AEA

    # PT-05 Watercolor Painting  with Glenda  Drennen

    Joine Glenda in experimenting with traditional as well as abstract techniques and applications, while also promoting spontaneity in responding to the work as it progresses. Inspiration for paintings is based on direct observation (including landscapes, figures and still-life objects) or printed materials such as photographs and magazine reproductions. There will be an emphasis on studying the principles of design and collage techniques. This is a four-hour class each day, so bring a brown-bag lunch along with your painting supplies. Watercolor paper is available for purchase. A materials list is available at time of registration. This class is available for staff development or graduate credit for teachers through AEA.

    Modern technology has simplified much of the photographic process, making it easier to attain a successful snapshot; however, to consistently cerat exceptional photographs, it is important to learn composition, perspective, lighting and how to express one's artistic vision. Doug will help students develop skills to create unique photos, while also teaching how to print black and white images in the darkroom. Bring a non-digital camera and B&W film to class.

    Today’s photographs are used in print, on the web, and on wireless devices. Learn the most up-to-date techniques in manipulating images. The newly-upgraded computer lab has the latest version of Adobe Photoshop CS2 software, five new computers and the most up-to-date scanning capabilities. All this assures students will create the highest quality images possible. This fifteen-hour class is available for staff development or graduate credit for teachers through AEA.

    This class is for those who would like to use a digital camera and incorporate the photographs into collage art pieces. The artwork may remain flat, be ‘in relief’, or progress to a 3-dimensional format. Your imagination is the only limit to the artistic possibilities. All supplies and equipment will be provided

    Bring home the magic of movie-making with "Making Home Movies". Students will learn everything they need to know about creating a fun home movie. Students will work with Windows Movie Maker, a basic editing program available free with many home computers. In this class, students will transform 1-2 hours of a birthday party, zoo trip, soccer game or other family video into a memorable and fun-to-watch 10-minute family feature. Students will also learn how to transfer the finished video to tape.

    This class is an introduction to forming, decorating, glazing and firing clay objects. The hand-built clay techniques use pinch, coil and slab construction.     Enjoy learning the fundamentals as well as intricacies of this ancient craft. Stained glass artistry can be applied in designing windows, mirrors, lamps and picture frames. Equipment and tools are provided; however, students are responsible for purchasing their own glass.

    Join Michael in exploring the sculptural realm of form and space. Three sculptural activities will be investigated: carving in plaster, modeling in clay and fabricating with found objects.     Debra’s primary art form is “Pique-Assiette”…the art of the mosaic. She will show how to create beautiful images using broken plates, tea cups, glass pieces and ceramic tiles. Please bring any china that you are willing to transform into an alternate thing of beauty. You may also bring a favorite small piece of furniture on which to apply tile…or use a wooden plaque that Debra will provide on which to create your work of art. Enjoy relaxing evenings of intense focus on this unusual art-making adventure. Some materials will be provided.
