Exhibition & Building Tours
Tours are a wonderful way to get acquainted with the Art Center’s exhibitions, and they help create a discourse for exhibition-related questions and discussions. The Art Center offers general and specifically designed tours to meet special needs or interests of individual groups. Groups of twelve or more are eligible for guided tours. All ages are encouraged, and as always, admission to the Art Center is free. The current exhibitions available for scheduling a tour are:

ARTWORKS Tours
ARTWORKS began as a special interest project of the Junior League of Sioux City in 1980. After much planning and community involvement, ARTWORKS opened in 1982. Initial funding was supplied by the City of Sioux City, Junior League, and the Art Center Association of Sioux City. Currently, funding for ARTWORKS is provided by the Art Center Association of Sioux City.
ARTWORKS is a directed learning experience for fifth grade students designed to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the creative process. During an ARTWORKS visit, a docent guides students through the Art Center’s exhibitions focusing on the basic elements of art making. Afterwards, the class moves to the ARTWORKS studio where the docent leads the group through a creative and artistic hands-on activity related to the viewed exhibitions.
To schedule an ARTWORKS tour, please review the Current Exhibitions schedule and select an appropriate exhibition. Then contact the Art Center at 712.279.6272 ext.200 to schedule a tour date and time. A confirmation notice will be sent to your school. Tours and hands-on activities are normally one hour and a half in length and are available at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, or at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
The Art Center sponsors all transportation and material costs for ARTWORKS events; however, the Art Center is not responsible for making travel arrangements. At the close of ARTWORKS tours, teachers are asked to complete a brief evaluation form to help the Art Center continue to improve this wonderfully rewarding program.
