Steve’s class is for the advanced potter that wishes to learn how to throw and control 5-25 pounds of clay at once. Emphasis will be on throwing large open planters and platters. *Material and lab fees (equipment, tools, one bag of clay, glazes and two firings) are included in the class price. If additional clay is needed, students may purchase 10 pounds of recycled/pugged clay for $5. Any clay used in the studio must be purchased at the Art Center.

Prerequisite: Advanced students only.

For the novice or the experienced, this class is a fun, hands-on approach to forming, decorating, glazing and firing clay objects. The hand-built clay techniques use pinch, coil, press molding and slab construction. The potter’s wheel will also be introduced with instruction on centering and building the various parts of a vessel. Instruction adapted to individual skill. *Material and lab fees (equipment, tools, one bag of clay, glazes and two firings) are included in the class price. If additional clay is needed, students may purchase 10 pounds of recycled/pugged clay for $5. Any clay used in the studio must be purchased at the Art Center.

This class will focus on the basic skills of wheel throwing, centering, opening and pulling vessels, followed forming cylinders, bowls and cups. Emphasis will be on developing a personal style and striving for consistency. Attention will be on the refinement of form, finishing and glazing (for the beginning or intermediate level potter). Equipment and tools are provided; however, students are responsible for purchasing their own bag of clay for $20.00. This price includes use of glazes and underglazes, and two firings (bisque and glaze). If additional clay is needed, students may purchase 10 pounds of recycled/pugged clay for $5.00. Any clay used in the studio must be purchased at the Art Center.
