Beginning Wheel Throwing

In this introductory class, students will be introduced to the basic skills of wheel throwing, centering, opening and pulling vessels, followed by forming cylinders, bowls and cups. All students will learn how to glaze/decorate their finished work. New to beginner students welcome—no previous wheel-throwing experience necessary. *NWAEA credit

Tuition includes: Use of equipment, tools, one 25 lb. clay, glazes and firings. Students may purchase additional clay if needed. Any clay used in the studio must be purchased at the Gilchrist Learning Center.

Prerequisite: Intermediate and advanced students only.

If you already have some pottery skills you may want to sign up for a more advanced course to learn new techniques, develop and fine tune your hand-building and wheel throwing skills.

For the novice or the experienced, this class is a fun, hands-on approach to forming, decorating, glazing and firing clay objects. Students will explore throwing on the wheel, various hand building techniques such as coil, press molding and slab construction and glazing procedures. Instruction adapted to individual levels.

If you enjoy sitting on your patio and admiring your garden or freshly cut grass then this is a fantastic opportunity for you! Garden sculptures are simple to create using recycled objects such as plates, cups, vases, bowls, or ceramic/glass figurines. Most materials are provided. Please bring large ceramic or glass plates to use as spacers.
