Michael Eastman

Michael Eastman was born in Saint Louis in 1947. He is a self-taught photographer who, like other photographers such as Annie Liebowitz, Richard Avedon, Alfred Stieglitz and Man Ray, bridges commercial and fine-art photography. His fine-art career began in 1972. His work has been collected by prominent museums including: The Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

This photograph was produced by Eastman during a four-year commitment to his Horses project. In this case, to emphasize the speed of the galloping horse, Eastman manipulated his original image to accentuate the blurs created by motion and to eliminate extra details from the background.
